about cardinalidae

Under the artistic direction of Jessie Cosentino, Cardinalidae uses trained dancers to reach the everyday people and expose them to dance in the most unfamiliar way. By taking performances outside of the typical theater experience, our goal is to attract a larger and more diverse audience. Cardinalidae invites not only artists and art enthusiasts but any person of any age looking for an escape to experience something new.

The symbolic meaning of cardinals deals with vibrancy and brilliance. As we observe the cardinal- particularly against the backdrop of the stark winter months, we are reminded that even when things appear bleak or isolated, there is always the presence of beauty, hope, and love. Cardinals encourage us to express our brilliance and reveal our truest selves. Their radiant red is a symbol for us to recognize the gifts in our hearts that we have to give to others in love and friendship.

Our new fundraising campaign has now been launched and we need your help! We are looking to raise $1000 before our May showcase for the following items:

$240 renewal of Liability insurance- this allows us to continue rehearsing our Linden St. Dance, our official rehearsal sponsor! Translation: $240 gives us an entire year of rehearsal space!!
$50 Permit application- While you may be thinking that we are saving money on theater space by dancing outside... think again! First we have to apply for an outdoors performance permit, then go from there.
$75- We have a new piece we are creating thanks to our residency at the Garage. This piece involves 2 ladders and lots and lots of fabric! The fabric we have but we need help getting ladders and weights to hold them down
$75- Costumes for our new and beautiful dancers!
$60- Publication materials and programs
$500- Dancer's compensation. I have the most dedicated dancers in the world! They rehearse every week for free. Don't you think they deserve a little reward??
